About the position

The Senior Development Engineer - Renewables at Bechtel is a pivotal role within the Renewable & Clean Power team, focusing on the development of utility-scale solar, onshore wind, and battery storage projects across the United States. This position involves overseeing all technical aspects of project development, including site selection, preliminary design, and interfacing with key stakeholders. The role is integral to Bechtel's strategy to enhance its leadership in the clean energy sector, contributing to the company's mission of delivering successful outcomes in renewable energy projects.

Responsibilities

  • Attend site visits and provide recommendations on technical feasibility and constructability for new development projects.
  • Create preliminary layouts and production forecasts, optimizing system configuration for the lowest Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE).
  • Develop and coordinate technical inputs for project financial models, including energy production estimates and capital costs.
  • Manage various technical consultants, including environmental, permitting, and engineering consultants.
  • Provide technical support for project acquisitions, including information requests and data review.
  • Contract and manage the Independent Engineer due diligence process in support of financial close, ensuring delivery of the IE report.
  • Lead technical discussions and presentations with key external stakeholders such as landowners and state/local officials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or international equivalent.
  • 10-13 years of relevant experience in infrastructure design and engineering or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
  • 10+ years of renewable energy design and engineering experience, preferably in solar and wind.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience within a developer or Independent Power Producer (IPP).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, ArcGIS, PVSyst, pvDesign, and PVCase.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with hydrogen and carbon capture technologies.
  • Familiarity with project finance processes and documentation.
