About the position

The Senior DevOps Engineer at Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is responsible for maintaining and developing continuous integration and deployment infrastructure for federal government clients. This role involves automating build processes, supporting CI/CD tools, and ensuring effective release management while collaborating with software developers and security teams. The position emphasizes the importance of interpersonal skills and requires a strong background in DevOps practices, particularly in cloud-based environments.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop continuous build/integration infrastructure.
  • Create and maintain fully automated CI build processes for multiple environments.
  • Write build and deployment scripts.
  • Support CI/CD tools integration, operations, change management, and maintenance.
  • Support full automation of CI/Testing.
  • Train and support developers in source control, build automation, and deployment processes.
  • Enable successful release management by moving code from Development and Testing to Staging and Production environments.
  • Collaborate with software developers, production support, and information security to automate and support infrastructure and tooling in cloud-based platforms.
  • Apply automated deployment tool sets and infrastructure using CI/CD processes.
  • Support response activities for operational and security incidents.
  • Drive the implementation and rollout of application reliability and disaster recovery.
  • Provide guidance on agile and DevOps/DevSecOps practices to streamline product delivery.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to automate and save time.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in DevOps roles.
  • Proficient with Source Control Management best practices and automation tools.
  • Expertise with build automation tools such as Jenkins.
  • Knowledge of source code control management systems (Git, Rational).
  • Experience with build time dependency management (Maven, Ivy) and unit testing tools (JUnit).
  • Familiarity with functional test automation techniques and tools (Selenium, Fortify, JMeter).
  • Experience with Open Source Repository Managers (NPM, Sinopia).
  • Proficient with Linux and creating Virtual Machines (Vagrant).
  • Good understanding of Quality Control and Test Automation in Agile environments.
  • Prior experience with Ansible, Jenkins, Git, GitHub, Tomcat, and virtual environments.
  • Experience with content management and issue tracking (JIRA).
  • Knowledge of basic networking concepts and system configuration tools.
  • Expertise in Linux administration including maintenance, security, and performance tuning.

Nice-to-haves

  • DevOps and Azure certifications are highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of developing solutions in an Agile approach.
