Senior Devops Engineer

About the position

The Senior DevOps Engineer at Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is responsible for maintaining and developing continuous integration and build infrastructure for federal government projects. This role involves automating deployment processes, supporting CI/CD tools, and collaborating with software developers to ensure efficient release management. The position requires strong interpersonal skills and a focus on implementing DevOps practices to enhance product delivery and operational reliability.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and develop continuous build/integration infrastructure.
• Create and maintain fully automated CI build processes for multiple environments.
• Write build and deployment scripts.
• Support CI/CD tools integration, operations, change management, and maintenance.
• Support full automation of CI/Testing.
• Train and support developers in source control, build automation, and deployment processes.
• Enable successful release management by moving code from Development and Testing to Staging and Production.
• Collaborate with software developers, production support, and information security to automate and support infrastructure in cloud-based platforms.
• Apply automated deployment tool sets and infrastructure management using CI/CD processes.
• Support response activities for operational and security incidents.
• Drive implementation and rollout of application reliability and disaster recovery.
• Identify opportunities to automate processes and save time.

Requirements

• Outstanding interpersonal, written, oral, and presentation skills.
• Proficient with Source Control Management best practices and automation tools.
• Expertise with build automation tools such as Jenkins.
• Knowledge of source code control management systems and configuration management (Git and Rational).
• Experience with build time dependency management (Maven, Ivy) and unit testing tools (JUnit).
• Experience with functional test automation techniques and tools (Selenium, Fortify, JMeter).
• Experience with Open Source Repository Manager (NPM, Sinopia).
• Proficient with Linux and creating Virtual Machines (Vagrant).
• Good understanding of Quality Control and Test Automation in Agile-based CI environments.
• Prior experience with DevOps, Ansible, Jenkins, Git, GitHub, Tomcat, and virtual environments.
• Experience with content management and issue tracking (JIRA).
• Knowledge of basic networking concepts and system configuration tools.
• Expertise with Linux administration including maintenance, security, and performance tuning.

Nice-to-haves

• DevOps and Azure certifications are highly desirable.
• Knowledge of developing solutions in an Agile approach.
