About the position

The Senior DevOps Engineer at Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is responsible for maintaining and developing continuous integration and build infrastructure for federal government projects. This role involves automating deployment processes, supporting developers, and ensuring the reliability of applications through effective DevOps practices. The position requires strong interpersonal skills and a deep understanding of CI/CD tools and practices, with a focus on cloud-based platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop continuous build/integration infrastructure.
  • Create and maintain fully automated CI build processes for multiple environments.
  • Write build and deployment scripts.
  • Support CI/CD tools integration, operations, change management, and maintenance.
  • Support full automation of CI/Testing.
  • Train and support developers in source control, build automation, and deployment processes.
  • Enable successful release management by moving code through various environments.
  • Collaborate with software developers and production support to automate infrastructure and tooling.
  • Apply automated deployment tool sets and infrastructure management using CI/CD processes.
  • Support response activities for operational and security incidents.
  • Drive implementation of application reliability and disaster recovery practices.
  • Apply agile and DevOps/DevSecOps practices to streamline product delivery.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for automation.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in DevOps roles.
  • Proficient with Source Control Management best practices and automation tools.
  • Expertise with build automation tools such as Jenkins.
  • Knowledge of source code control management systems (Git, Rational).
  • Experience with build time dependency management (Maven, Ivy).
  • Familiarity with unit testing and code coverage tools (JUnit).
  • Experience with functional test automation techniques and tools (Selenium, Fortify, JMeter).
  • Proficient with Linux and creating Virtual Machines (Vagrant).
  • Good understanding of Quality Control and Test Automation in Agile environments.
  • Prior experience with Ansible, Jenkins, Git, GitHub, Tomcat, and virtual environments.
  • Experience with content management and issue tracking (JIRA).
  • Knowledge of basic networking concepts and system configuration tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • DevOps and Azure certifications are highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of developing solutions in an Agile approach.
