About the position

The Senior Die Tooling Engineer at Lear Corporation is responsible for overseeing tooling projects related to foam tooling. This role involves extracting and analyzing engineering data, forecasting tooling investments, and ensuring timely completion of tooling programs. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to design and develop foam mold tooling, track progress, and maintain communication between manufacturing plants and program management.

Responsibilities

  • Forecast future tooling needs for North America programs.
  • Provide estimates for foam tooling costs and timing.
  • Understand engineering drawings, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Evaluate and report on ongoing tooling programs.
  • Apply process knowledge to tool design.
  • Ensure tooling programs are completed on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate on the design and development of foam mold tooling.
  • Make purchase commitments for tools.
  • Track and report the progress of tooling programs, from sourcing to production readiness.
  • Assist in developing and updating tooling program timelines.
  • Contribute to the development of tooling standards manuals.
  • Act as a liaison between manufacturing plants, customers, and staff headquarters during tooling development and build cycles.
  • Coordinate information between tooling suppliers and internal business groups and program management groups.
  • Assist with home line runoff activities, working closely with production and tool source shops.
  • Review engineering drawings for assigned programs.
  • Assist Lear Corporate Purchasing and program management group in information needed for them to procure production and tryout material.

Requirements

  • A 4-year degree or equivalent experience in Foam Tooling.
  • 5-10 years of experience in tool engineering, specifically related to foam tooling and applications.
  • 3-5 years of experience in tool design and engineering change management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Full working knowledge of the Lear AS400, SAP, and PLM systems.
