About the position

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Senior Digital Product Owner & Customer Experience Architect to join our digital product management team. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of how we support our customers and dealers. As part of Cat Digital, the technology arm of Caterpillar, you will leverage cutting-edge technologies to create industry-leading digital solutions. This hybrid position combines product management and experience strategy, allowing you to advocate for our customers and enhance their interactions with the Cat brand, products, and services. In this role, you will collaborate with business partners and engineering teams to guide both digital and physical experiences that simplify and transform the daily operations of our customers. Your primary focus will be to understand customer needs and workflows, translating these insights into compelling experiences and requirements. You will lead integrated, cross-product initiatives, ensuring that customer feedback is consistently validated throughout the process. Your mission is to empower our customers to perform their jobs more effectively, contributing to a better world in the process. You will maximize the value of the product by partnering closely with engineering to maintain and prioritize the product backlog. You will provide a clear vision for product development, ensuring alignment with Caterpillar's goals and customer value. Additionally, you will take ownership of the success and quality of your product, managing complex initiatives that require prioritization, roadmap definition, and the elaboration of epics and features. Your role will also involve integrating and aligning roadmaps across dependent product teams, ensuring a deep understanding of customer processes through a mixed-methods research strategy. As a Senior Product Owner, you will help frame and plan new opportunities, articulating problems and potential impacts while considering assumptions and risks. You will build strong collaborations with stakeholders, facilitating brainstorming sessions to transform broad ideas into clear goals and customer requirements. Your leadership will define major experience elements, ensuring a cohesive structure and logic across functions and domains.

Responsibilities

  • Maximize the value of the product and the work of the Development Team through strong partnership with engineering on creation, maintenance, and prioritization of a product backlog
  • Provide vision on what is to be built, domain knowledge, and direction in alignment with Cat's goals and customer value
  • Take ownership for the success and quality of your product
  • Product manage components of a complex, cross product initiatives with high value to the organization, including prioritization, roadmap definition, and elaboration of epics and features
  • Act as a connection point and orchestrator to integrate and align roadmaps and experiences across dependent product teams
  • Ensure we have deep understanding of customers and their processes by partnering to drive and execute a mixed-methods research strategy/roadmap
  • Help frame and plan new opportunities - articulating the problem or opportunity to be addressed, the impact, and assumptions and risks to be considered/mitigated
  • Build tight collaboration and understanding of stakeholder needs and business goals
  • Lead definition of major experience elements - covering the logic, structure, skeleton, and relationships of how an experience should come together across functions/domains

Requirements

  • Four-year Bachelor's degree preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems, Marketing, HCI, Psychology, Communications, Ethnography, Anthropology, Engineering or related field or equivalent working experience
  • 3+ years in digital product management, user experience, user research, digital strategy, or related function
  • 2+ years applying human-centered design, lean innovation, or design thinking methodologies
  • Superb communication, presentation, storytelling, interpersonal, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work well within multiple teams including business/commercial partners, cross-product portfolio, development, and field-facing arms of an organization
  • Strong accountability, planning, and organizational skills
  • Ability to consider multiple variables of a decision and prioritize accordingly in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working in an Agile environment while simultaneously managing multiple priorities
  • Experience managing projects using Product Management and/or Agile software tools such as Aha, ProductBoard, Azure DevOps, JIRA, Team Services, Rally
  • Displayed understanding of common and emerging UX and user research methodologies/artifacts
  • Experience utilizing a variety of experience mapping techniques based on need
  • Strong design background with proven ability to lead, partner, and guide product design decisions
  • Good knowledge of Caterpillar policies, standards, procedures, and a broad understanding of Caterpillar's organization
  • Domain expert in business applications, fleet management, and/or eCommerce
