About the position

The Senior Director of Accounting & Finance at First Fed is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the bank's financial data accuracy, accounting operations, and compliance with regulatory standards. This position involves managing key financial personnel, directing investment and cash management functions, and ensuring the bank's financial reporting aligns with GAAP and SEC regulations. The role also emphasizes staff development and participation in bank-wide initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Controller, Treasurer, SEC and Financial Reporting Manager, and Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the Bank's financial data and reporting.
  • Direct the accounting operations of the Bank and its subsidiary companies.
  • Oversee the investment and cash management functions in collaboration with the Treasurer.
  • Provide tools and authority to direct reports to execute their functions effectively.
  • Develop staff skills through coaching, training, and performance management.
  • Participate in Bank-wide projects and initiatives as needed.
  • Oversee all accounting functions of the Bank and subsidiaries.
  • Review reconciliations and reports prepared by staff, including month-end journal entries and tax scheduling.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, SEC, FFIEC, and Bank policies.
  • Interpret FASB Pronouncements and related regulatory accounting issues.
  • Analyze transactions for appropriate accounting treatment and ensure compliance with financial reporting standards.
  • Ensure timely filing of tax returns and preparation of tax provisions.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in accounting and finance leadership roles, preferably in the banking sector.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, SEC regulations, and financial reporting standards.
  • Experience managing financial teams and developing staff capabilities.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial transactions and provide guidance on accounting treatment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with various stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with investment and cash management functions.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance in the banking industry.
  • Advanced degree in finance or accounting (e.g., MBA, CPA).
