About the position

The Senior Director, AI and Data Governance at KPMG is responsible for overseeing the advisory data risk register, managing data governance and compliance risks, and leading a high-performing team of data governance professionals. This role involves defining automated controls for data-related risks, coordinating with stakeholders on data governance policies, and providing strategic support for projects utilizing AI automation. The position requires a strong background in data governance, risk management, and the evolving AI landscape, with a focus on developing actionable governance strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of advisory data risk register including performance of risk assessments.
  • Identify, document, and manage emerging risks associated with data governance, compliance, and the firm's strategic growth objectives including AI.
  • Leverage internal experience and applied practice to augment advisory client teams' thought leadership in this space.
  • Define actionable, automated controls to manage data-related risks and accelerate availability of permissible data.
  • Coordinate with other business function stakeholders to align on common data governance policy, approaches, and solutions where applicable.
  • Support strategic projects to provide permissible and timely access to data and content using AI automation.
  • Direct a high-performing team of data governance professionals, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment focused on continuous improvement.
  • Lead a team of subject matter experts who coach client-facing account teams on data handling policy and protocols to best protect client and firm data.

Requirements

  • Minimum twelve years of recent experience focusing on data governance, data management, and risk management.
  • Proven track record of success in leading and scaling data governance programs within a complex AI-enabled data estate.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university (preferably in computer science, computer engineering, information security) or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience navigating the evolving AI and data regulatory landscape to develop and implement compliant governance practices and mitigate risk.
  • Strong understanding of the evolving data estate, including the data and content supply chain, access, and usage permissibility, third party data and usage agreements, and the impacts of Generative AI technologies on data governance.
  • Proven ability to translate this knowledge into actionable, data and content governance strategies.
  • Demonstrate expertise in developing and implementing adaptable, scalable, and effective data governance practices and frameworks.
