About the position

As a Senior Director of Architecture at Travelers, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technology landscape for the Enterprise Data and Analytics Unit of a global, Dow 30 company. Reporting directly to a member of the Enterprise Architecture and Emerging Technology leadership team, you will collaborate closely with senior technology leaders to transform existing business and technology capabilities, paving the way for innovative, best-in-class solutions. Your responsibilities will include defining a target state for technology architecture, developing roadmaps, and identifying new and emerging technologies that can optimize business operations. In this leadership position, you will inspire and mentor a team of high-performing Architects, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. You will be expected to demonstrate strong architecture and engineering skills, with a deep understanding of modern technologies such as Cloud-native solutions, APIs, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML). As a visionary executive, you will challenge the status quo while prioritizing understanding and alignment with business needs. Your role will also involve establishing and evolving a unified architecture vision within a community of architecture leaders, driving continuous technology transformation to minimize technical debt, and ensuring alignment of IT initiatives with the defined target state. You will be responsible for preparing and delivering comprehensive communications that convey architectural direction and its alignment with enterprise strategy, while also optimizing talent strategies to attract and retain top talent in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technology architecture segment in support of the Enterprise Data and Analytics business unit.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop architecture priorities and direction that enable business imperatives.
  • Display thought leadership in modern architecture principles and technology modernization.
  • Drive continuous technology transformation to minimize technical debt.
  • Create partnerships with Senior Software Engineering leadership.
  • Analyze key industry and technology trends to assess potential impacts on the enterprise.
  • Define and lead technology proof of concepts to ensure feasibility of new technology architecture solutions.
  • Define target state technology architecture and roadmaps.
  • Ensure alignment of IT initiatives with the target state.
  • Build strong partnerships with engineering to align skills with technology direction.
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive communications regarding architectural direction and enterprise strategy alignment.
  • Optimize talent strategy to ensure a proper mix of resources and attract the best talent.
  • Continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the architecture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of technology architecture experience.
  • Experience providing mentorship to an architecture team.
  • Organizational and transformational leadership experience.
  • Experience in an agile operating model.
  • Ability to define strategic technology direction and architecture vision for an organization.
  • Expert level software engineering experience.
  • Proven track record of influencing senior leadership.
  • Insurance technology experience is preferred.
  • Strong grasp of value creation and business capability models.
  • Passion for technology transformations with hands-on experience in the last 3 years.
  • Experience executing technology modernization initiatives, including migration to cloud-native and API strategy.
  • Current experience with AWS, APIs, accelerators, and DevSecOps.
  • Cloud Architecture Certification (AWS, GCP, or Azure) or strong architecture experience on Cloud.
  • Good understanding of security and experience with large-scale technology platforms.
  • Experience modernizing data technology and information architecture on cloud.
  • Exposure to advanced analytics techniques using ML and AI.
  • Hands-on experience with data technologies on cloud and Master Data Management solutions (Informatica).
