About the position

The Senior Director at Families USA will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the organization's communications strategies to amplify voices and drive change in health care advocacy. This position involves leading issue-based campaigns, managing multiple project teams, and ensuring alignment with strategic priorities in a fast-paced media environment. The Senior Director will oversee digital content strategies, media relations, and provide mentorship to the communications team, all while fostering a commitment to social justice and the mission of ensuring high-quality, affordable health care for all.

Responsibilities

  • Develop long-term communications strategies that align Families USA's mission with media opportunities.
  • Lead and manage multiple project teams to deliver high-impact communications campaigns.
  • Oversee and execute the organization's digital content strategy, including social media and email campaigns.
  • Design and oversee communications plans for national and state-level health care campaigns.
  • Lead and execute the organization's earned media strategy, managing media plans and events.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the communications team, establishing priorities and coaching staff.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience managing communications strategies, preferably in advocacy or nonprofit organizations.
  • Expertise in health care messaging, particularly with federal agencies and advocacy campaigns.
  • Exceptional communication skills and experience in digital and earned media campaigns.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead collaborative teams.
