The Senior Director at Keck Medicine of USC plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the content strategy across both print and digital channels. The strategies developed will be applied across various platforms to enhance customer engagement, usage, and retention, ensuring that the content resonates with the target audience and meets organizational objectives. As the resident expert in content planning, creation, editing, and distribution, the Senior Director will collaborate across departmental divisions and throughout the organization to establish and maintain a comprehensive content strategy, an annual calendar, and a digital asset management system. This role requires the deployment and maintenance of diverse processes, tools, channels, and platforms to promote and enhance the initiatives of Keck Medicine of USC. Success in this position hinges on the individual's ability to create, direct, and measure the outcomes of curated content, as well as their capacity to build relationships while educating and training collaborators and stakeholders. The essential duties include overseeing all content creation and management for Keck Medicine of USC across all media and digital marketing platforms. The Senior Director will develop, direct, and execute a content strategy that supports departmental and organizational goals, including an annual plan with specific goals and timelines for select services. This involves curating and delivering content across various formats, ensuring that all content is on-brand, consistent in style, design, quality, and tone, and optimized for search and user experience. The role also entails creating a system to monitor the effectiveness of the content program through analytics, leading the team in developing concepts for message delivery, managing budgets, and fostering cross-functional relationships to ensure the content team is engaged and moving initiatives forward successfully.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all content creation and content management for Keck Medicine of USC in all media and digital marketing platforms.
  • Develop, direct, and execute content strategy to support department and organization goals, including an annual plan and specific goals/timelines for select services.
  • Curate and deliver content, including editorial, video, photography, and design, based on marketing goals and platform distribution timing.
  • Maintain a library of facts, statistics, and messaging about Keck Medicine of USC, ensuring information is up-to-date and adequately sourced.
  • Ensure all content is on brand, consistent in style, design, quality, and tone, and optimized for search and user experience across all channels.
  • Contribute directly to asset areas: writing, editing, design, photography, and video.
  • Create a system to monitor the effectiveness of the program through analytics and inform program improvement.
  • Oversee the development and usage of a digital asset management system.
  • Lead the team in developing concepts for delivering messages aligned with the content strategy.
  • Engage with outside agencies to ensure consistency and continuity in messaging.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor budgets for assigned areas.
  • Lead and develop a team of direct reports and establish cross-functional relationships to engage the content team.
  • Ensure Brand Central meets the needs of constituents and is regularly reviewed for updates.
  • Conduct research for effective usability, targeting, taxonomy, and modeling as needed.
  • Maintain understanding of competitors' work and share insights with the team for decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities in daily communication channels and develop original content to meet goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • 10 years of experience in communications, with a background across a range of content platforms (traditional to experimental).
  • Experience with integration of visual and written media, including design and video.
  • Previous experience in reaching marketing KPIs with strategic content creation.
  • 5-7 years of experience in managing a Content Strategy/Marketing department.
  • Understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of both print and digital media for video, editorial, photography, and design.
  • Superior oral and written communication and presentation skills, often to clinical chairs and executive leadership.
  • Proven knowledge to develop, implement, and analyze content strategies and use analytics to show effectiveness.
  • Skilled writer with AP style knowledge, able to write both news and features.
  • Web and social media knowledge, including strong SEO skills.
  • Ability to understand when and how content should be shared.
  • Proven ability to direct, manage, and engage a team with and without direct oversight.
  • Knowledge of project management platforms and operational processes.
  • Problem-solving, troubleshooting, and resolving issues independently.
  • Experience with analytic programs/reporting for measuring cross-platform content success.
  • Budget and vendor management knowledge.
