About the position

The Senior Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) at Rocket Lab is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and management of EHS programs across all US locations. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a culture of safety and environmental responsibility. The Director will collaborate with various departments to prioritize employee well-being and minimize environmental impact.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement EHS policies in line with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant state and federal regulations, managing permits, safety logs, reports, and audits.
  • Oversee environmental compliance programs, including hazardous waste management and sustainability initiatives.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and safety inspections to identify hazards and implement corrective measures.
  • Develop and manage emergency response plans for workplace accidents and natural disasters.
  • Lead investigations of accidents and near-miss incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Design and deliver safety training programs for employees on safe work practices and emergency response procedures.
  • Foster a company-wide safety culture by encouraging open communication and recognizing safe behaviors.
  • Prepare reports on EHS performance metrics and ensure documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Develop and manage the EHS budget, ensuring cost-effective management of programs and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with various departments to integrate EHS strategies into business processes and projects.
  • Oversee the EHS workforce plan, including hiring, developing, and mentoring EHS employees and support staff.
  • Manage consultants as needed, including contract negotiations and overseeing work assignments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in health & safety, Environmental Technology, or similar field.
  • Certified Health & Safety Professional certification.
  • 15+ years' experience in occupational health and safety in manufacturing, aerospace, or construction environments.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in emergency management and occupational health and workplace hygiene.
  • Skills in risk assessment, policy development, training, project management, and safety in manufacturing engineering.
