About the position

The Senior Director of Financial Planning & Analysis at Cox Enterprises is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial planning and analysis (FP&A) and accounting functions for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC). This position plays a crucial role in driving the organization's budget and strategic planning processes, ensuring alignment with financial goals while providing insights to support decision-making across departments. The role involves managing a team of financial analysts and accountants, leading the annual budgeting process, and engaging with senior leadership to communicate financial results and forecasts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of financial analysts, managers, and/or senior managers.
  • Manage the annual budgeting process in partnership with the Publisher, CFO, and department leadership.
  • Revise the official forecast each quarter based on results and new information.
  • Communicate results and updated forecasts to the CFO and AJC leadership team.
  • Prepare presentation materials in spreadsheet and slide formats.
  • Analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual results to assess performance and identify risks and opportunities.
  • Provide oversight for financial business cases and ad hoc analysis.
  • Participate in internal leadership forums and strategic planning meetings.
  • Lead the accounting operations and manage the accounting team.
  • Engage with leaders to develop strategies that capitalize on market needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 12+ years of experience across finance and accounting, with at least 3 years in financial planning and analysis and 3 years in accounting.
  • 7+ years in a finance leadership role.
  • Proven track record of managing teams with strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to run business planning processes and financial modeling.
  • Strong analytical skills to derive actionable insights from data.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with all levels of employees.
  • Proficiency in financial systems such as Oracle, OneStream, Concur, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Multiple years of experience within media/publishing.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
