About the position

As the Senior Director of Global Marketing at Abbott, you will play a pivotal role in leading the Global Strategic Marketing team within the Molecular Diagnostics (MDx) division. This position is integral to the MDx Leadership Team, where you will contribute to the vision and mission of the division by setting the global product portfolio strategy and establishing a pipeline of new product innovations. Your responsibilities will include partnering with cross-functional colleagues to develop new products and driving the global launch of these innovations to achieve sustainable market share, sales, and margin growth. You will report directly to the President of Molecular Diagnostics, making your role crucial in shaping the future of our diagnostic solutions that are utilized in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics worldwide. In this role, you will oversee portfolio and product lifecycle management, ensuring alignment with the MDx vision and strategy. You will identify gaps in the product portfolio and define an innovation roadmap to address these gaps. Collaborating with Research and Development, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory, Quality, and Operations teams, you will ensure that product development resources are effectively aligned with the portfolio strategy. You will implement a disciplined Portfolio Management Process to enhance customer value, cost efficiency, quality, and profitability. Additionally, you will maintain a formal product portfolio strategy and lifecycle roadmap, which will serve as inputs to the monthly Integrated Business Planning process. Your responsibilities will also encompass market and competitive insights, where you will execute research to generate customer insights, identify market trends, and uncover growth opportunities. You will inform commercial launch strategies by defining value propositions, product positioning, branding, messaging, pricing, and advertising campaign concepts. Establishing processes to collect and report competitive intelligence will be essential to maintain a global market forecast by area and market segment. Innovation will be a key focus, as you will establish a robust pipeline of product, service, and business model innovations that align with the MDx global product portfolio strategy. You will utilize customer insights to define new product concepts and lead the validation of these concepts with customers. Your role will also involve developing business cases for new product initiatives and guiding the prioritization and resourcing of on-market and new product initiatives. As the Global Brand Steward, you will define MDx's global brand identity and ensure consistent execution across various regions. You will provide commercial leadership to cross-functional product development teams and support the development of customer insights to differentiate products effectively. Additionally, you will define global market access and pricing strategies, partnering with Medical Affairs to ensure clinical evidence supports reimbursement for new products. Your leadership will extend to building strong relationships with areas and countries to facilitate the execution of global strategies and campaigns. You will establish and monitor Global Strategic Marketing KPIs to ensure effective and timely execution of strategies and programs. Attracting, hiring, coaching, and developing a high-performing marketing team will be essential to your success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Global Strategic Marketing team and serve as a key member of the MDx Leadership Team.
  • Set the global product portfolio strategy and establish a pipeline of new product innovations.

  • Define the MDx vision and strategy in collaboration with the MDx Leadership Team.
  • Align product portfolio with MDx vision by identifying gaps and defining the innovation roadmap.

  • Maintain formal product portfolio strategy, product lifecycle roadmap, and New Product Introduction schedule.
  • Execute research to generate customer insights and identify market trends.
  • Conduct research to aid in defining customer and product requirements.
  • Inform commercial launch strategy by executing research for value proposition, positioning, and messaging.
  • Maintain global market forecast by Area/Country and market segment.
  • Establish processes to collect and report competitive intelligence monthly.
  • Establish a robust pipeline of product, service, and business model innovations.
  • Utilize customer insights to define new product concepts and validate them with customers.
  • Develop business cases for new product initiatives and present them during NPI Phase 0 stage gate review.
  • Define a framework for prioritizing and resourcing product initiatives.
  • Serve as Global Brand Steward, defining MDx's global brand identity and messaging.
  • Provide commercial leadership to cross-functional product development teams throughout the product development process.
  • Support the development of customer insights to identify product differentiation.
  • Define global market access and pricing strategy for MDx product portfolio.
  • Partner with Medical Affairs to define clinical evidence for reimbursement of new products.
  • Build strong working relationships with Areas and Countries to facilitate execution of global strategies.
  • Establish and monitor Global Strategic Marketing KPIs to ensure effective execution of strategies.
  • Develop and maintain the annual budget for Global Strategic Marketing.

Requirements

  • BA or BS in business or science/engineering required; MBA from a top-tier school preferred.
  • 10+ years post-MBA experience; prior experience in diagnostics and thorough understanding of the sales process.
  • Experience leading a global marketing team of more than 10 people across key functions.
  • Experience serving on a cross-functional leadership team and establishing trust with executives.
  • Classically trained brand marketer with expertise in defining innovation roadmap and managing product portfolio.
  • 7+ years of experience leading a global product launch, including defining value proposition and market access strategy.
  • Global mindset with commercial affiliate sales and marketing experience preferred.
  • Outstanding strategic and analytical thinking skills with the ability to anticipate issues and formulate recommendations.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to take ownership of problems and exercise sound judgment.
  • Track record of integrating diverse perspectives into cohesive recommendations and developing an inclusive culture.
  • Excellent skills at influencing outcomes and catalyzing dialogue across the organization.
