About the position

We are seeking a Senior Director of Greenhouse Operations to oversee our Research Triangle greenhouse portfolio. This role is pivotal in managing the daily operations of the facility, ensuring that the greenhouse and laboratory requirements for our client tenants are met efficiently. The Senior Director will work closely with the Senior Coordinator of Greenhouse Operations and Alexandria's facilities team to maintain high standards of operation and tenant satisfaction. The Senior Director will assist the Alexandria regional team in greenhouse space planning within the RTP region, leading facilities operations, maintenance procedures, and tenant relations for our multi-tenant greenhouse operations. This includes executing and enhancing standard operating procedures and programs for greenhouse and laboratory safety, conducting safety training, managing chemical inventories, performing laboratory audits, and ensuring compliance with operational permits and hazardous waste disposal regulations. Accurate and up-to-date records on all training, permits, and incidents will be maintained to ensure operational integrity. In this role, the Senior Director will act as the primary interface between tenants for greenhouse operations, providing onboarding training, guidance, and support on greenhouse use. This includes initiating new services for tenants, coordinating the shipment of lab samples, and advising on tenant-related decisions regarding lighting, temperature, watering, and fertigation. The Senior Director will also assist tenants in recommending greenhouse and laboratory equipment and systems, coordinating the installation of any necessary equipment while ensuring compliance with lab utilities and safety requirements. Additionally, the Senior Director will maintain, program, and train tenant users on greenhouse controls software, including Argus and Priva managed systems. Collaboration with the Alexandria regional team on general operations across AgTech-focused campuses and with the leasing team on projecting greenhouse demand and tenant needs will be essential. The role also involves troubleshooting minor greenhouse and lab equipment issues to ensure smooth operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Alexandria regional team in greenhouse space planning in the RTP region.
  • Lead facilities operations, maintenance procedures, and tenant relations for multi-tenant greenhouse operations.
  • Execute and enhance standard operating procedures and programs for greenhouse and laboratory safety, safety training, chemical inventories, laboratory audits, and hazardous waste disposal.
  • Coordinate vendor contracts.
  • Act as the primary interface between tenants for greenhouse operations, providing onboarding training and support.
  • Assist tenants with recommending greenhouse and laboratory equipment/systems and coordinate installation of any equipment.
  • Maintain, program, and train tenant users on greenhouse controls software, including Argus and Priva managed systems.
  • Work with Alexandria regional team on general operations across AgTech-focused campuses.
  • Work with the Alexandria leasing team on projecting greenhouse demand and existing tenant needs.
  • Troubleshoot minor greenhouse and lab equipment issues.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience running a research greenhouse operation and/or science laboratory.
  • Familiarity with the life science industry and regional AgTech ecosystem.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with individuals at all levels and provide guidance.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to consistently deliver timely and accurate results.
