About the position

The Senior Director, Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) at Waste Management is a pivotal role responsible for providing strategic HR expertise and guidance across various organizational functions. This position is designed to enhance the company's culture, manage change effectively, and support strategic coaching, talent assessment, succession planning, performance management, and organizational design. The HRBP will work closely with business leaders to ensure that the right people are in the right roles, thereby driving results and fostering business growth. In this role, the HRBP will transition between strategic planning and daily operational support for designated client groups, acting as both an employee advocate and a change agent. They will assess and anticipate HR-related needs, communicate these needs to business units, and develop integrated solutions that align with the company's objectives. The HRBP will collaborate with line leaders to define and deliver competitive strategies that add value to stakeholders, conduct organizational diagnoses to identify critical capabilities, and design HR practices that support the overall business strategy. The HRBP will also be responsible for workforce planning, succession planning, and providing input on organizational structure to meet business unit targets. They will play an integral role in the talent acquisition process, from recruitment through onboarding, while promoting diversity and inclusion within the workforce. Additionally, the HRBP will identify strategies to enhance employee engagement through effective communication and policies, develop high-performance cultures through talent management, and address training needs for business units and individual executives.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Senior HR Business Partner to 2-3 Senior Vice Presidents and their leadership teams, providing strategic and hands-on support with daily HR needs.
  • Inform Centers of Excellence (COEs) on business needs and deploy core HR initiatives such as annual performance reviews and talent planning to assigned client groups.
  • Create, guide, and facilitate workforce planning and succession planning to achieve business unit targets and milestones.
  • Integrate into the talent acquisition process from recruitment through onboarding, promoting diversity and inclusion.
  • Identify strategies to increase employee engagement through effective communication, policies, and practices.
  • Develop people strategies and create a high-performance culture through talent management and leadership development.
  • Build team effectiveness by developing organizational interventions tailored to the unique requirements of the business unit.
  • Identify training needs for business units and individual executive coaching needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a similar area of study, or a High School Diploma/GED with four years of relevant work experience.
  • Fifteen years of relevant work experience in progressively responsible human resource management roles.
  • SPHR certification is preferred.
  • In-depth understanding of HR concepts and principles gained through formal education and substantial work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in making strategic HR decisions and assessing leadership talent.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to assess situations and make judgments based on experience.
  • Excellent collaboration, influencing, project management, organizational, and change agent skills.
