About the position

The Senior Director of Change and Release Management at Marriott is a pivotal leadership role responsible for guiding a global team through a transformative period in IT. This position focuses on modernizing change and release management practices by integrating DevOps principles and ensuring compliance with IT Service Management (ITSM) standards. The role emphasizes innovation, efficiency, and governance in managing software and infrastructure changes, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration across various teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the global Change and Release Management team through a period of transformation.
  • Orchestrate software and infrastructure changes across the organization.
  • Advocate for automation to improve the flow of changes to software and systems.
  • Proactively detect potential problems with changes and releases before they occur.
  • Ensure rapid recovery in the event of a failure or incident.
  • Define and document all changes and releases, acting as the process owner.
  • Evaluate risks to service integrity from proposed changes and releases.
  • Ensure compliance with security policies and relevant standards for release processes.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding release management planning and performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the Change and Release Management functions.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of overall work experience in Information Technology or application development.
  • 7+ years of experience supporting cross-functional application and infrastructure teams with technology change and release needs.
  • 5+ years in a technical discipline role with experience in planning and implementing change and release processes.
  • 4+ years of applications support in a cloud environment and system implementation experience.
  • 4+ years ensuring compliance with security policies and standards in change and release processes.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in Information Technology or related field.
  • Extensive experience with ServiceNow ITSM, ITOM, Asset Management, and Application Portfolio Management.
  • Ability to work across organizational boundaries to lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Advanced knowledge of ITSM processes and infrastructure change management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with IT outsourcing activities in a managed services environment.
  • Experience working in both private and public cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
  • Experience in a DevSecOps environment.
  • Ability to apply measurement processes for assessing program outputs and outcomes.
  • Experience working with global, distributed teams across different time zones.
