About the position

The Senior Director of Nursing Operations and Patient Care Services at MedStar Medical Group is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing multiple areas of organized nursing services. This position requires maintaining current knowledge of healthcare practices, providing leadership in nursing, and ensuring quality healthcare delivery. The role involves strategic planning, operational management, and fostering a collaborative environment to enhance patient care and staff engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and expertise in professional nursing practice and quality healthcare delivery.
  • Create a learning environment and promote participative management within collaborative governance.
  • Contribute to the strategic plan and annual goals of the Division of Nursing (DON).
  • Assume 24-hour administrative and leadership authority for specified divisions or units.
  • Coordinate operational, personnel, and financial activities with executive staff and hospital leadership.
  • Plan, develop, and evaluate patient care services within assigned clinical areas.
  • Monitor and evaluate nursing and patient care delivery systems to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Engage in budgetary monitoring and resource allocation for safe patient care delivery.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders in strategic planning and program development.
  • Ensure accountability for quality, safety, and performance measures in nursing operations.
  • Participate in capacity management and patient throughput initiatives.
  • Act as a liaison to hospital administration and lead entity-wide initiatives.
  • Promote evidence-based practice and participate in research activities.
  • Develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies for nursing staff.
  • Conduct performance management planning and manage individual performance.
  • Collaborate with nursing academic partners to ensure a qualified nursing workforce.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nursing or a health-related field required.
  • Doctoral degree in Nursing leadership or Health Services Administration preferred.
  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible leadership roles in nursing, including director of nursing or equivalent experience required.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Maryland required.
  • Certification in Nursing Administration from a nationally recognized organization required within 1 year.
  • CPR certification for healthcare providers required within 90 days.
