About the position

The Senior Director of Business Development - Data Centers is responsible for driving market penetration in the data center segment, focusing on electrical distribution equipment while leveraging a comprehensive portfolio of services. This role requires a strong sales background, technical expertise in the data center industry, and the ability to manage a team effectively. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in building relationships with key industry players and developing strategies that align with the company's goals.

Responsibilities

  • Increase market penetration in the data center segment.
  • Lead with electrical distribution equipment while leveraging the complete portfolio of services.
  • Plan and oversee new marketing initiatives.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data center strategy.
  • Research, identify, and pursue high-impact sales opportunities.
  • Maintain detailed records of sales activities and analyze sales data.
  • Attend conferences, meetings, and industry events.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop specific marketing strategies.
  • Execute a strategic sales plan leveraging differentiated service models.
  • Schedule and plan customer site visits.
  • Drive new business by seeking opportunities with customers and closing orders.
  • Gather and provide competitor feedback.
  • Establish and maintain customer relationships to generate profitable sales.
  • Build and nurture relationships with key decision-makers and influencers.
  • Monitor support teams to ensure orders are executed as agreed.
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure seamless delivery and exceptional service.
  • Track and report sales activity monthly.
  • Craft and present compelling proposals and negotiate terms.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team of sales and business development resources.
  • Provide mentorship, training, and career development opportunities for team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in data center operations and management.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., Uptime Institute, ISO, ANSI/TIA).
  • 5 years' sales experience in the electrical industry preferred.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale data center development projects.
  • Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure, including power, cooling, networking, and security systems.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Experience with budget management and financial planning.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Distributor, Electrical Contractor, and OEM background preferred.
  • Cooperative attitude towards all internal and external customers.
  • Dependable and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to learn other areas sufficient to fill in where required.
