About the position

PATH is a global nonprofit dedicated to achieving health equity, with over 40 years of experience in forging multisector partnerships and expertise in various fields including science, economics, technology, and advocacy. The organization is seeking a Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, who will serve as the lead strategist and champion for communicating PATH's work, impact, and vision for health equity. This role involves developing and implementing a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy aimed at elevating PATH's global profile, supporting fundraising efforts, and enhancing the organization's visibility and reputation worldwide. The Senior Director will be responsible for overseeing the creation and dissemination of impactful marketing and communications materials, including annual reports, newsletters, press releases, and digital content. They will manage the organization's online presence, including the website and social media platforms, and will be tasked with developing marketing strategies that ensure effective engagement with key audiences. This position requires a dynamic leader with a strong background in marketing, communications, and brand management, ideally within the nonprofit sector. The Senior Director will also lead public relations activities, manage relationships with media outlets, and engage in public speaking and crisis communications to protect and enhance PATH's brand reputation. In addition to overseeing a high-performing team of marketing specialists, writers, editors, and digital communications professionals, the Senior Director will collaborate closely with programmatic staff to highlight PATH's expertise and evidence. They will work with PATH's President and CEO, the Executive Team, and other program leaders to support institutional objectives and enhance PATH's visibility at global events. Responsibilities

  • Oversee the creation and dissemination of impactful marketing and communications materials, including annual reports, newsletters, press releases, and digital content.
  • Manage the organization's online presence, including the website, social media platforms, and email marketing campaigns.
  • Develop and execute marketing strategies, including audience segmentation, campaign management, and conversion tracking.
  • Leverage data analytics and marketing technology to craft compelling campaigns that engage key audiences throughout the engagement funnel.
  • Establish metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing and communications efforts, providing regular reports to the Executive Team and Board of Directors.
  • Develop compelling and credible content with a strong focus on ethical storytelling.
  • Advise on strategies, approaches, and messages to reach a wide variety of audiences including public health officials, scientists, government decision makers, donors, philanthropists, and partners.
  • Support business development and philanthropic outreach efforts.
  • Develop marketing campaigns that support donor engagement and collaborate with the Philanthropy Team to create compelling fundraising materials and events.
  • Provide strategic direction on institutional goals at global, high-visibility events, enhancing PATH's visibility and fostering strategic partnerships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism or related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years' experience in progressively responsible marketing and communications roles.
  • Experience advising nonprofit clients or working in a nonprofit environment is required.
  • Experience leading, managing, and motivating teams is required.
  • 5+ years' experience in international marketing or communications roles preferred.
  • Experience in global health, international development or related fields preferred.
  • A blend of nonprofit, private sector, public sector, and/or agency work is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in designing and implementing comprehensive strategic communications and marketing programs.
  • Experience in marketing management across traditional, digital, and experience platforms.
  • Experience in using data to ensure the effectiveness of marketing and communications campaigns and activities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of brand activation and development.
  • Experience designing outreach strategies with donors and philanthropic audiences, focusing on major and institutional donors.
  • Demonstrated success in building, mentoring, and coaching a team of marketing and communications specialists and managers.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for diverse audiences.
  • Experience managing media relations and public speaking.
  • Exceptional collaboration skills, with experience producing results in collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Excellent leadership, facilitation, supervisory, and management skills.
  • Customer/client focused approach with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans.
