About the position

The Senior Director of Special Services position at Evergreen Public Schools is a full-time, certificated non-represented role for the 2024-2025 school year. This continuing position requires a commitment of 260 days per year, with 8 hours of work each day, adjusted to 257 days for the 2024/25 school year due to three furlough days. The position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected. The role involves providing leadership and coordination of specialized programs in collaboration with various stakeholders to create systems that serve schools effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and coordination of specialized programs in collaboration with Director, program coordinators, building administrators, and other instructional leaders.
  • Participate as a member of the leadership team.
  • Maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Complete required federal, state, and local reports.
  • Provide leadership in staff assignment and supervision in collaboration with building administrators.
  • Manage fiscal responsibilities related to special education budgets.
  • Participate as a member of the Special Services Team to increase staff capacity.
  • Articulate the vision of Evergreen Public Schools focused on improving learning and achievement for all students.
  • Establish culturally responsive standard operating procedures and practices.
  • Facilitate training of staff on effective practices leading to higher student achievement.
  • Supervise Special Service programs and evaluate assigned staff.
  • Collaborate with administrators on personnel hiring, instructional leadership, and school improvement planning.
  • Provide support for building administrators on district protocols related to various issues.
  • Lead inclusive programming for students qualified for special education services.
  • Advocate for Evergreen Public Schools and its students in the community and at the state level.
  • Build productive, collaborative relationships with co-workers and the community.
  • Continue to increase professional knowledge and skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality of program, staff, and student information.
  • Work with parents and schools on boundary issues at the elementary level.
  • Attend and participate in district staff meetings and labor relations.
  • Support district initiatives on equity.
  • Develop cultural competence and commitment to equity in outcomes.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree/Doctorate in Education preferred.
  • Valid Program Administrator's or Principal's credential or current enrollment in a credentialed Program Administrator or Principal's program required.
  • Central office experience preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in special education administration preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective written and oral communications with diverse community members.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strong and effective leadership ensuring high standards for all students.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching strategies and experiences in effective instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate collaborative project teams and promote consensus.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise large groups.
  • Commitment to work as an effective member of the district leadership team.
  • Strong background in state and federal laws related to special education.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience as a building or district office administrator preferred.
  • Commitment of five years in this position preferred.
