About the position

The Senior Director, Operations at XPO is a pivotal role that requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in transportation management. This position is responsible for overseeing the operational activities across multiple sites, ensuring that customer commitments are met while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. The Senior Director will communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and internal teams to facilitate smooth operations and support the Director-level employees in their daily tasks. This role also involves managing the Profit and Loss (P&L) responsibilities for owned operations, which includes developing strategic growth plans and supporting business development efforts to secure new accounts. In addition to operational oversight, the Senior Director will play a crucial role in hiring, training, and developing staff to ensure a competent workforce. The position requires the establishment of procedures to maintain overall company quality objectives and adherence to safe work practices. The Senior Director will manage fleets of trucks, trailers, and drivers, ensuring that all inbound and outbound freight operations are executed efficiently. This role also focuses on identifying growth opportunities and leveraging industry benchmarks to improve key performance indicators (KPIs) year-over-year. Responsibilities

  • Communicate with customers, vendors, and operations to ensure customer commitments are met
  • Support Director level employees at multiple sites with daily operational activities
  • Manage P&L responsibilities for owned operations
  • Develop strategic growth plans for owned operations
  • Support business development efforts to land new accounts
  • Assist senior leadership with critical matters related to the business
  • Establish procedures for maintaining overall company quality objectives
  • Hire, train, develop and appraise staff effectively
  • Manage facilities, yards, personnel and all associated activities
  • Ensure all records/reports are completed on time and maintained appropriately
  • Adhere to and enforce all safe work practices
  • Manage fleets of trucks, trailers, drivers and daily work activities
  • Manage inbound/outbound freight from warehouse and yard
  • Manage a team, focusing on specific growth opportunities and trends to leverage industry benchmarks and provide year-over-year improvement of KPI measurements

Requirements

  • 7 years of transportation management experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain or Logistics (preferred)
  • Availability to occasionally travel between branches, regions and corporate headquarters
  • 10 years of progressive transportation management experience (preferred)
