About the position

The Senior Director of Global Payroll at MongoDB will play a pivotal role in scaling payroll operations across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC regions. This position is essential for executing the company's employee growth initiatives while ensuring compliance and providing excellent support to the employee base. The ideal candidate will leverage their extensive payroll expertise to collaborate with various departments, including Regional HR, Accounting, and others, to maintain compliance and enhance operational efficiency. This role requires a driven individual with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, capable of embracing and driving change in a fast-paced environment. As the leader of the global payroll team, the Senior Director will oversee the accurate and timely processing of payroll for up to 10,000 employees. They will set a strategic direction to support the growth and scalability of payroll operations, manage relationships with global payroll service providers, and assess the effectiveness of these partnerships. The role involves proactive collaboration with key stakeholders such as Compensation, Benefits, Stock Administration, IT, Finance, Tax, and Legal to ensure seamless and compliant payroll practices. Additionally, the Senior Director will be responsible for developing payroll procedures and controls, implementing new approaches and automation to improve efficiency, and overseeing payroll audits to ensure compliance with SOX and other legal requirements. They will also provide regular operational and financial metrics to leadership and assist with internal and external audit requirements. This position is based in New York City, NY, and follows a hybrid working model, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead global payroll team in the Americas, EMEA, and APAC regions ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for up to 10,000 employees.
  • Set a strategic direction and vision to support growth and scale of the operations.
  • Manage relationships and monitor the effectiveness of all global payroll service providers, assessing the need for change when necessary.
  • Proactively partner and collaborate with key stakeholders such as Compensation, Benefits, Stock Administration, IT, Finance, Tax, Legal, and third-party service providers to ensure seamless, compliant practices.
  • Partner with the Stock Administration team to manage stock-based compensation processing in payroll, ensuring payroll tax compliance.
  • Develop additional payroll procedures, controls, and ensure streamlined preparation, documentation, and disbursement of payroll-related payments.
  • Scale processes to enhance payroll operational efficiency, including the design and implementation of internal controls and maintenance of payroll policies and procedures.
  • Implement new approaches and automation, policies, and procedures that affect continual improvements in efficiency of services performed.
  • Oversee payroll audits and perform internal controls related to payroll to comply with SOX and other country-specific legal requirements; recommend improvements to optimize processes.
  • Partner with MongoDB's in-house tax team and external tax consultants to ensure compliance with new legislation and regulatory rulings impacting payroll.
  • Provide regular payroll-related operational and financial metrics and insights to leadership.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requirements to ensure compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance / Accounting, or related discipline.
  • 12+ years of experience in payroll operations, with specific experience in a global, multi-national, publicly-traded company.
  • Strong background in international payroll and expertise in US federal, state, and local payroll taxation.
  • Experience in a high volume company supporting a population of 10k+ employees.
  • Experience with processing equity transactions globally (RSUs, ESPP or Stock Options is preferable).
  • Strong project management experience and drive to streamline processes at scale.
  • Experience onboarding new payroll vendors and transitioning global payroll to different systems.
  • Experience with Google Applications and advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional business partners and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong understanding of upstream data inputs and end-to-end integrated processes related to time & attendance, benefits, and payroll.
  • Strong problem-solving, planning, and execution skills, coupled with an ownership mentality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ADP WFN, ADP Streamline, ADP Celergo, SuccessFactors (HRIS system), KPMG GET, and Etrade equity tool is a plus.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred.
