About the position

The Senior Director of Robotics Software R&D at Smith & Nephew is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the software development lifecycle for innovative robotic solutions. This position requires a visionary leader with extensive experience in software engineering and robotics, dedicated to improving patient outcomes through advanced technology. The role involves fostering a culture of innovation, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and driving the adoption of new technologies within the software team.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and excellence within the software team.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices in software development and robotics.
  • Drive the adoption of new technologies and methodologies to enhance the capabilities of software in our robotic systems.
  • Collaborate with PMO to help with the planning, execution, and delivery of robotics projects, handling budgets, timelines, resources, and mitigating risks.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding software.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners and collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems engineering, hardware engineering, marketing, clinical, regulatory, quality, operations, finance, and suppliers.
  • Mentor and develop team members, encouraging a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in program management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record in the medical device or robotics industry.
  • Proven success in delivering software products from concept to launch.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, software engineering, or a related field.
