About the position

As a Senior Director of Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, you will play a pivotal role within the Enterprise Data & Analytics (ED&A) organization at Travelers. You will collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders, including technologists and data experts, to drive holistic strategic efforts that leverage artificial intelligence to revolutionize the insurance industry. Your leadership will be crucial in guiding a team of software engineers in the design, build, and deployment of AI-based solutions, ensuring that high-quality deliverables meet business objectives and adhere to established standards and policies. In this highly visible role, you will not only lead your team but also act as a player-coach, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement. You will be responsible for building and developing discipline-specific capabilities across multiple teams, equipping individuals with the necessary skills and tools to enhance the overall quality of engineering practices. Your expertise will be instrumental in assessing skill gaps, developing training programs, and creating a robust talent pipeline that provides unique opportunities for team members to grow and excel. Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers in the development of AI-based solutions for the insurance industry.
  • Act as a player-coach, providing mentorship and guidance to team members.
  • Manage resources effectively to balance business objectives with high-quality deliverables.
  • Build and develop discipline-specific capabilities across multiple teams.
  • Assess skill gaps and develop training programs to address them.
  • Align engineering work with business priorities to achieve meaningful impact.

  • Develop a robust talent pipeline and provide unique opportunities for team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Five years of programming/development experience.
  • One year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Seven years of programming/development experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record in implementing technology trends in AI and Cloud Computing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on architecture robustness.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Kubernetes, Python, Docker, AWS, and LLMs.
  • Critical-thinking mindset to identify appropriate solutions for various problems.
  • Advanced delivery skills in software design strategies and methodologies.
