About the position

The Senior Director of Transport Network Operations Center (NOC) at Lumen is responsible for leading the NOC team to ensure the availability, performance, and security of the network infrastructure. This role involves overseeing the resolution of network incidents, collaborating with various stakeholders, and aligning operations with business objectives. The position requires a strong focus on customer service, technical expertise in network operations, and the ability to drive modernization through automation and AI/ML technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Transport NOC team, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance evaluation.
  • Define and implement NOC procedures, standards, and best practices.
  • Monitor and report on network availability, performance metrics, and SLAs.
  • Participate and optimize problem management practices to reduce future incidents.
  • Manage network change and configuration management processes, ensuring compliance and minimal disruption.
  • Plan and execute network maintenance, upgrade, and expansion projects, ensuring alignment with network architecture and design.
  • Drive modernization and advancement of NOC capabilities including automation, fault prediction, and utilization of AI/ML.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in network operations, engineering, or administration.
  • At least 5 years of experience in leading and managing network operations teams.
  • Expert knowledge of optical technologies and equipment, including Transmission (PL), SONET technology, SDH, DWDM, T1, T3, etc.
  • Strong skills in network troubleshooting, analysis, and optimization.
  • Demonstrates clear communication about the importance of the customer and fosters urgency toward customer needs.
  • Ability to build respectful relationships across the organization and with external partners and customers.
  • Experience modernizing network operations through automation and use of AI/ML models.
  • Experience working with data scientists and using big data, ML, and AI models to optimize network and service performance.
  • Ability to act with a sense of urgency and demonstrate leadership and high engagement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with big data analytics in network performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with customer service management and escalation processes.
