About the position

The County of Riverside's District Attorney's Office is seeking Senior District Attorney Investigator A and B levels to fill multiple vacancies throughout Riverside County. This role involves conducting criminal investigations, gathering evidence, and supporting the prosecution of law violators. The position offers various work schedules and opportunities for advancement within the investigative bureau. Incumbents are peace officers responsible for a full range of investigative work, with potential for higher salary based on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates actual and suspected law violations, including complex cases; gathers, preserves, analyzes, and reports evidence.
  • Conducts field investigations and searches crime scenes; interviews and interrogates complainants, suspects, witnesses, and other persons to obtain information.
  • Recommends to attorneys the filing of criminal complaints; writes reports and assists attorneys in case preparation for trial.
  • Conducts investigations for the Grand Jury and background investigations of applicants for employment with the District Attorney's Office.
  • Executes search warrants and court orders to secure evidence and bodily fluid samples.
  • Participates in search warrant operations, surveillances, and undercover investigations; travels with little notice.
  • Operates technical investigative equipment and maintains operational logs and records.
  • Explains District Attorney policies and applicable laws to the public and other agencies.
  • Monitors and responds to security alarms in assigned county facilities.
  • May be assigned to specialized units or investigations involving public officials or multi-agency task forces.

Requirements

  • Completion of 30 semester or 45 quarter units at an accredited college, including 12 semester or 18 quarter units in Criminal Justice or a related field.
  • Three years of criminal investigative experience in a sworn status, or two years as a District Attorney Investigator with the County of Riverside.
  • Knowledge of crime investigation principles, criminal law, and techniques of interviewing and interrogating.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possession of a valid Intermediate P.O.S.T. Certificate; Advanced P.O.S.T. is preferred.
  • Experience in specialized investigations such as fraud or organized crime.
