About the position

The Senior Drinking Water Process Engineer at Black & Veatch will play a pivotal role in leading the execution of projects related to drinking water treatment. This position involves serving as a technical specialist, conducting process evaluations, and overseeing the design of drinking water treatment systems. The engineer will also engage in business development activities, including client relationship management and presenting at conferences, while working within a supportive team environment focused on innovative solutions for critical infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare complex engineering deliverables including process/mass balance calculations, design criteria, process flow diagrams, and P&IDs.
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously, addressing complex technical challenges.
  • Serve as a technical specialist providing guidance on conventional and advanced water treatment systems.
  • Conduct applied research activities involving bench, pilot, and full-scale testing to assess treatment processes.
  • Develop recommendations for treatment processes, equipment, and materials selection.
  • Oversee data collection and management for process design work.
  • Prepare engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
  • Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Independently apply advanced engineering techniques to solve problems.
  • Review or manage the work of junior engineers.
  • Assist in identifying key client interests and drivers for projects and new business prospects.
  • Communicate client interests to project teams and develop creative solutions.
  • Support business development activities including proposal development and client interviews.
  • Attend and present at conferences on advanced treatment projects and thought leadership ideas.
  • Mentor junior engineers and assist with performance management processes.
  • Provide guidance on engineering standards and codes related to water quality and treatment.
  • Ensure compliance with Black & Veatch quality program and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Implement resource management strategies and manage engineering resources for small groups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 8 years of related work experience in drinking water treatment.
  • Professional engineering license or ability to obtain one within 2 years of employment.
  • Advanced knowledge of process design for municipal effluent treatment, desalination, and brine management.
  • Established leadership skills in consulting, project execution, and business development.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree (Master's or Doctoral) in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering.
  • 10 years of experience in drinking water treatment with at least 5 years in water quality and treatment.
