About the position
The E&S Excess Casualty Underwriter at Zurich is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with broker partners and customers, leveraging underwriting expertise to assess risks, evaluate exposures, and price insurance products effectively. This role emphasizes collaboration across various business units and requires a market-facing approach to drive growth and profitability in the Excess Casualty division. The position offers flexibility in work arrangements and is aimed at experienced professionals at either the Mid-Senior or Senior level, depending on qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain relationships with broker partners and customers across all industries.
- Leverage casualty underwriting acumen for risk assessment, exposure evaluation, and pricing.
- Collaborate across business units including claims, finance, risk engineering, actuary, and technical underwriting.
- Use market-facing, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to grow relationships with distribution partners.
- Serve as a customer industry advocate to improve the customer experience.
- Utilize a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing.
- Drive informed decisions using risk insights, data, and models at the point of sale.
- Administer and monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, and regulations.
- Work within broad limits on highly complex assignments.
- Coach and develop junior team members.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area, or 6 or more years in Claims or Underwriting Support area.
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and relevant experience in Underwriting or Claims.
- Knowledge of line/s of business and legal and regulatory guidelines.
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
Nice-to-haves
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of E&S Commercial insurance industry experience.
- Technical knowledge of Excess Casualty Underwriting with E&S.
- Established wholesale broker relationships.
- Creative problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
