About the position

The Arena Group is seeking a Senior Editor for its Commerce News & Deals team, a pivotal role in executing the content strategy across various brands, including Men's Journal, The Street, and Parade. This position is designed for a digital-savvy editor with a strong background in lifestyle and commerce topics, particularly in areas such as home and garden, consumer electronics, and apparel. The ideal candidate will have a portfolio that showcases their expertise in these subjects and highlights their ability to create engaging content that resonates with audiences. In this role, the Senior Editor will be responsible for sourcing deals and product news, assigning and editing new content, updating and optimizing existing articles, maintaining an editorial calendar, and writing stories as needed. The candidate must possess a keen eye for compelling deals and the ability to effectively communicate their value to readers. The position requires flexibility, as the editor will need to work nights and weekends during significant shopping events like Amazon Prime Day, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday. Reporting directly to the Executive Editor of Commerce, this role is based in New York, NY, with a requirement of three days per week in the office. The Arena Group offers a competitive salary range of $80,000 to $100,000 annually, with actual salaries varying based on factors such as location, education, and experience. The company emphasizes that this salary range is just one component of the total compensation and benefits package available to employees.

Responsibilities

  • Assign and edit commerce content across brands, including news and deals posts, evergreen roundups, and single-product reviews.
  • Monitor the daily news cycle and promotional events to identify commerce opportunities.
  • Edit clear, compelling, and accurate stories under tight deadlines.
  • Utilize analytics and research tools such as Trackonomics, Google Analytics, Google Trends, SEMrush, and Parsley to monitor story and topic performance.
  • Update and optimize existing stories to ensure content is recent, accurate, and useful for readers.
  • Develop a roster of writers capable of producing high-quality commerce stories across various topics.
  • Write and build stories in the CMS as needed.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years' experience in a fast-paced digital environment with increasing editing and assigning responsibilities, ideally 3+ years in the commerce space.
  • Proven success in driving growth across various product categories through news and deals content.
  • Strong angling and formatting skills with excellent judgment regarding audience engagement across digital platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of trends and new products, with the ability to foster relationships with brands and PR agencies.
  • Understanding and enthusiasm for identified categories, creating compelling and approachable shopping coverage.
  • Knowledge of digital content best practices, including SEO, AP Style, and data interpretation.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented, with a knack for building strong relationships with internal collaborators.
  • Ability to write and edit quickly without compromising factual accuracy or brand integrity.
  • A sense of fun, urgency, and a can-do attitude.
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field is preferred.
