About the position

The Senior Editor for the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) will play a crucial role in transforming quantitative research findings into engaging multimedia content. This position involves drafting and editing long-form research reports, managing editorial projects, and collaborating with various teams to ensure high-quality outputs that align with MGI's objectives. The role requires a blend of editorial expertise, project management skills, and the ability to synthesize complex information into accessible formats for diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and edit long-form research reports for MGI and other research institutes.
  • Manage editorial projects through outlining, drafting, revising, approvals, production, and launch.
  • Collaborate with research teams to build storylines and sharpen messages.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of research while adhering to guidelines.
  • Produce shorter articles for McKinsey outlets and external publications.
  • Create social media assets and video scripts in collaboration with the digital editor.
  • Engage with internal and external teams to support editorial projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's/university degree or equivalent required; advanced degree in economics, business, or journalism is a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience in business writing and editing, preferably for an English-language business publication or professional-services firm.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written English; other language skills are a plus.
  • Exceptional editorial skills, judgment, and economics and business literacy.
  • Broad understanding of current events and trends in economics, business, policy, and technology.
  • Data literacy and ability to evaluate and edit complex charts.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, presentation).
  • Ability to manage and coach other editors' professional development.
  • Excellent organization and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a low-structure environment.
