About the position

Dey Street Books is seeking a Senior Editor to acquire high-profile nonfiction manuscripts and proposals. The role focuses on publishing celebrated and diverse creatives, delivering successful publications that educate, inspire, and entertain. The Senior Editor will manage a curated list of 25-30 titles annually, contributing to the growth of the publishing program and maintaining strong relationships with authors and agents.

Responsibilities

• Solicits, acquires, evaluates, and develops high-profile manuscripts and proposals for a nonfiction-focused list.
• Crafts pitches and offers in an entrepreneurial fashion based on home-grown ideas.
• Contributes to and participates in the short and long-term development and growth of the publishing program.
• Manages and coordinates editorial production and publication schedules, sometimes on compressed schedules.
• Oversees fact sheet, jacket, and catalog copy; reviews marketing and publicity materials.
• Presents titles and list positioning both in and out of house.
• Conducts and analyzes sales research, with a deep understanding of P&Ls and social media analytics.
• Develops and maintains strong and extensive author, agent, publicist, and manager relationships.

Requirements

• Minimum 5-6 years of relevant editorial experience.
• Established agency contacts.
• Excellent negotiation skills.
• Strong, succinct presentation skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate with all levels across the organization.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and set priorities under pressure.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Deep understanding of cultural trends and social media analytics, engagement, and platforms.
• Proficient knowledge of MS Office.
