About the position

Dey Street Books is seeking a Senior Editor to acquire high-profile nonfiction manuscripts and proposals. The role focuses on publishing celebrated and diverse creatives, delivering successful publications that educate, inspire, and entertain. The Senior Editor will manage editorial production, develop strong relationships with authors and agents, and contribute to the growth of the publishing program.

Responsibilities

• Solicits, acquires, evaluates and develops high profile manuscripts and proposals for a nonfiction-focused list.
• Crafts pitches and offers in an entrepreneurial fashion based on home-grown ideas.
• Contributes to and participates in short and long term development and growth of the publishing program.
• Manages and coordinates editorial production and publication schedules, sometimes on compressed schedules.
• Oversees fact sheet, jacket and catalog copy; reviews marketing and publicity materials.
• Presents titles and list positioning both in and out of house.
• Conducts and analyzes sales research, with a deep understanding of p&ls, and social media analytics.
• Develops and maintains strong and extensive author, agent, publicist, and manager relationships.

Requirements

• Minimum 5-6 years of relevant editorial experience
• Established agency contacts
• Excellent negotiation skills
• Strong, succinct presentation skills
• Ability to effectively communicate with all levels across the organization
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and set priorities under pressure
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Deep understanding of cultural trends and social media analytics, engagement and platforms
• Proficient knowledge of MS Office
