About the position

The Senior Editor position at McMahon Group involves overseeing the editorial process for clinical newspapers and educational projects in the medical field. This role requires a detail-oriented and organized individual to edit articles, manage freelance writers, and collaborate with the editorial team to produce high-quality content for print and digital platforms. The position offers opportunities for career advancement and requires a hybrid work schedule, with in-office presence at least once a month.

Responsibilities

  • Edit articles for print publications and web (AP style).
  • Assign articles to freelance writers.
  • Page-proof and make edits on print publications using InCopy, Adobe and related tools.
  • Work with the managing editor to develop clinician-written reviews, including finding authors and tracking manuscripts (AMA style).
  • Post articles to the web and create e-newsletters using a proprietary Content Management System.
  • Write articles for web and print, including FDA approvals and features.
  • Develop, edit and post multimedia content, including video captured at meetings.
  • Meet digitally with managing editor and/or publication team weekly or as needed.
  • Attend 3-4 medical meetings per year to coordinate news coverage.
  • Participate in editorial board meetings during medical meetings and remotely.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism or Communications (advanced degree and clinical experience are desirable).
  • More than 5 years of journalism/communication experience covering complex medical/health topics.
  • Strong detail-oriented writing and editing skills, including adapting material for multiple channels (print and digital).
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with the publishing team.
  • An eye for sharp, engaging leads/headlines and ability to fact-check.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects across different therapeutic areas.
  • Ability to use social media to promote content and build brand awareness.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Adobe InCopy.
  • Experience with video-editing programs such as Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro, or willingness to be trained.
