About the position

The Senior Education Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing the educational experience of students on and near the Navajo Nation by developing and implementing programs focused on the Diné language, culture, history, and governance. This position involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including schools, communities, and educational entities, to ensure effective delivery of educational content and assessments related to the Diné language and culture.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, promote, develop, and implement Diné language, culture, history, and governmental programs in schools.
  • Administer the Dine Lang Proficiency Assessment and Dine' Content Standards.
  • Coordinate with over 26 schools serving approximately 10,000 students.
  • Collect and manage data related to culture and language programs.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, businesses, and educational entities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Elementary, Secondary Education or related field.
  • Four years of experience in the educational field, including classroom teaching and teaching the Navajo language and culture.
  • Knowledge and experience with Dine' language proficiency assessment and curriculum framework.
  • Possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Native American Language and Culture Teaching Certificate for Pre-K - 12.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Digital Storytelling and curriculum development.
  • Familiarity with educational standards and assessments related to Native American languages.
