About the position

The Senior Electrical & Controls Engineer at Goforth Williamson, Inc. is a pivotal role responsible for designing and managing control systems for pump stations. This position is integral to the rapidly growing controls division, allowing the engineer to contribute significantly to the foundation of the organization. The role offers flexibility with remote work options while requiring occasional office visits in Griffin, GA. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, a team player, and possess a strong technical background in electrical controls and automation.

Responsibilities

  • Managing and taking ownership of assigned projects, including full design, documentation, support, testing, and startup.
  • Designing control panels using AutoCAD Electrical, including wiring schematics, panel layouts, and field wiring charts.
  • Programming PLCs and designing HMI graphics.
  • Testing panels after they are built for proper and expected operation.
  • Engineering control panel retrofits and creating retrofit drawings.
  • Quoting new control panels and/or retrofit jobs (parts and labor).
  • Providing controls-related technical support or troubleshooting assistance over the phone.
  • Creating and reviewing submittals of control systems to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Assisting with programming/commissioning variable frequency drives, soft starts, and pump station controllers.
  • Teaching younger engineers the skills developed to help them grow and succeed.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years of working experience in controls/automation engineering preferred.
  • 4-year degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience designing control panels as a controls engineer/systems integrator.
  • Ability to design/create an electrical drawing package using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • PLC programming experience using Allen Bradley RS Logix and other PLC software.
  • Experience with HMI graphics and SCADA design is a plus.
  • Experience programming VFDs and soft starts.
  • Experience with industrial networking and interfacing with automation products.
  • Experience with creating and reviewing submittal documentation.
  • Experience with reading bid job specifications and designing control panels per specifications.
  • Knowledge of UL 508A and 698A requirements.
  • Strong phone and interpersonal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a systems integrator or panel designer.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical (not just standard AutoCAD).
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus/TCP, ProfiNet, etc.).
