About the position

Amazon Web Services Infrastructure Services is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our global engineering team. This role is pivotal in the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring that our data centers and the associated servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment function seamlessly. As part of this team, you will tackle complex challenges that involve numerous variables impacting the supply chain, and you will collaborate with a diverse group of professionals including software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. Your contributions will help us maintain the highest standards for safety and security while providing our customers with reliable access to innovative cloud solutions. In this position, you will leverage your hands-on electrical design experience to create resilient and cost-effective electrical distribution systems. You will be responsible for taking designs from concept through to the permit and construction document set, defining critical equipment specifications, and approving equipment submittals. Your role will also involve direct support for construction, from site selection review through to commissioning and turnover. Responsibilities

  • Design data center electrical systems and collaborate with other disciplines to create a comprehensive construction document set.
  • Create designs that meet or exceed quality requirements while adhering to budget constraints.
  • Work with local agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes.
  • Review and approve equipment submittals to ensure they meet project specifications.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests during construction phases.
  • Collaborate with commissioning teams to test and validate the installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects across different geographical regions.
  • Travel to sites for reviews and work with onsite field engineers, providing engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits, and startup support as needed.
  • Encourage creativity and offer innovative solutions to engineering challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or 12+ years of relevant electrical experience.
  • 7+ years of experience with industrial or commercial electrical design.
  • 9+ years of experience developing design documentation (plans, specifications, etc.) for construction and/or permitting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineering License and knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.
  • Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
  • Willingness to think outside the box to find creative and innovative solutions that reduce costs without impacting quality, reliability, or maintainability.
  • Detailed understanding of uninterruptible power sources, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, and automatic/static transfer switches.
  • Experience with fast track design/build projects, significant upgrade projects, large scale technical operations, or large-scale compute farms.
