About the position

At Collins Aerospace, our Trusted Mission Processing Department is at the forefront of developing industry-leading product capabilities associated with Security, Flight Controls, and Mission Computing. We are seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer who specializes in digital and high-speed processing designs. This role is pivotal in developing technical solutions to complex problems throughout the entire product life cycle, which includes proposal, design, manufacture, integration, testing, and transitioning to production of various types of military ruggedized electronic equipment. The ideal candidate will collaborate with our engineers to leverage cutting-edge technology in designing digital electronics circuits that implement video and digital signal processing, high-speed digital electronics, and configurable logic. The successful candidate will work with minimal supervision, exercising considerable latitude in determining the technical objectives of their assignments. This position is set in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where engineers with talent and initiative can excel. Responsibilities include the design, analysis, simulation, testing, and integration of digital electronic modules and circuit card assemblies (CCAs). The role also involves circuit card design, including hardware designs with processors, FPGAs, memory, and industry interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, and UART. Additionally, the engineer will manage requirements capture and verification for small to medium electronic packaging circuit cards, prepare and present project technical information to peers and customers, and identify and address project problems while recommending resolutions to ensure successful project completion. Experience with design tools for requirements capture, schematic capture, signal integrity, and timing analysis is essential, as is familiarity with printer wiring board layout for military applications. The role also requires facilitating project tasks between cross-functional integrated product teams to ensure alignment with overall project objectives and collaboration among team members.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, simulate, test, and integrate digital electronic modules and/or circuit card assemblies (CCAs).
  • Conduct circuit card design including hardware designs with processors, FPGAs, memory, and industry interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, and UART.
  • Manage requirements capture and verification for small to medium electronic packaging circuit cards.
  • Prepare and present project technical information to peers and internal/external customers.
  • Identify and address project problems (Root Cause) and recommend resolutions (Corrective Actions) to ensure successful project completion.
  • Utilize design tools for requirements capture, schematic capture, signal integrity, and timing analysis (e.g., DxDesigner, DOORS, Hyperlynx) for digital/analog mixed signal electrical circuit designs for military applications.
  • Facilitate project tasks between cross-functional integrated product teams to ensure alignment with overall project objectives and team collaboration.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience, or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.
