About the position

The Electrical Design Senior Engineer (Switches) at Nidec is a pivotal role responsible for the design and development of automotive electronic modules and components. This position requires a deep understanding of customer needs and the ability to translate those into innovative product designs. The engineer will work closely with various teams, including quality assurance, to analyze warranty returns and ensure that all designs meet the required specifications. The role also involves liaising with suppliers for quotes and specifications, as well as maintaining ongoing communication with customers throughout the product development lifecycle. The engineer will be expected to prepare detailed schematics and drawings, analyze test data, and ensure that all product development milestones are met on time. Additionally, the engineer will play a key role in updating and maintaining current Nidec Mobility products, identifying opportunities for design improvements, and supporting the ISO14001 Environmental Policy in their work activities.

Responsibilities

• Create new electronics product designs based on customer requests or internal development.
• Understand customer procedures and implement or adapt development to meet those requirements.
• Implement new designs into production by creating designs and following the entire development process.
• Assist the Quality Department in analyzing warranty and other customer returns.
• Work in conjunction with leadership to develop long-range and short-range goals for self and department.
• Ensure on-time delivery of product development milestones.
• Prepare product or system layout and detailed schematics/drawings as required.
• Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
• Maintain customer engineering contact throughout the program, including program timing and technical development.
• Liaise with suppliers for quotes, specifications, and samples.
• Update and maintain current Nidec Mobility products through research and recommendation for improvement design opportunities of electronic modules and components.
• Verify that all specifications are met.
• Support and implement the ISO14001 Environmental Policy as it pertains to work activities.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in Electrical Design Engineering (Switches).
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
• Knowledge of automotive switch electrical design.
• Knowledge of LED lighting and microprocessors.
• Experience with voltage regulators, PTCs, relays, and power electronics.
• Proficient in schematic capture and bill of material generation with Altium.
• Experience using Mathcad and PSPICE tools for worst-case analysis.
• Familiarity with DFMEAs and automotive EMC tests.
• Ability to communicate product and product processes with customers.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with LED-based white and color-mixing system design.
• Experience with color equipment and lighting measurement tools, including spectrometers and light sensors.
• Mechanical tooling experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with 8-bit / 16-bit microcontrollers.
• Experience with modeling CAD tools such as LTSpice or PSpice.
