About the position

The Senior Electrical Designer at KFI Engineers plays a crucial role in the execution of projects within the Utilities and Central Energy department. This position focuses on producing high-quality AutoCAD drawings and Revit models, coordinating design work with various engineering disciplines, and mentoring junior designers. The ideal candidate will have extensive electrical design experience, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Produce quality construction documents and coordinate design work with other engineering disciplines.
  • Design industrial lighting layouts (interior, exterior, egress/exit) and lighting controls.
  • Gather electrical data from clients, architects, and other disciplines.
  • Coordinate work and construction documents with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Create electrical room layouts including the layout of electrical equipment such as transformers and switchboards.
  • Size feeders and raceway (cable tray and conduit).
  • Model equipment and raceway in 2D and 3D, performing clash detection with other disciplines.
  • Perform voltage drop calculations and short circuit calculations.
  • Lead electrical 3D model reviews.
  • Mentor less experienced electrical designers.
  • Develop schematic and wiring diagrams.
  • Gather existing site data and write construction observation reports.
  • Edit schedules for motor control centers, panel boards, and lighting fixtures.
  • Review shop drawings for dimensions and layout information.
  • Estimate hours and scope of work to contribute to project budgets and schedules.

Requirements

  • Ten plus (10+) years drafting/design experience, preferably in AutoCAD and Revit, in a consulting and/or construction capacity.
  • Experience working in Autodesk Revit for electrical design and coordinating with other disciplines in Revit.
  • Ability to perform 3D modeling of electrical equipment including coordination with other disciplines.
  • Basic understanding of Architectural, Electrical, Civil, and Structural Engineering construction practices and drawings.
  • Working knowledge of Codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA, IBC, IFC, Energy Code, Life Safety Code, etc.).
  • Application of Electrical Engineering Principles (e.g., Ohms' law, overcurrent protection, grounding etc.).
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures for document control purposes including QA/QC processes.
  • Knowledge of SKM Power Tools for Windows, ETAP or Easy Power modeling software.
  • AAS Degree/Diploma in Design/Drafting.
