About the position

This position offers an exciting opportunity to join the Installation Design and Certification Group at Collins Aerospace, working directly with aircraft at the Aircraft Certification Center located at the Cedar Rapids, Iowa Airport. As a senior level Electrical Engineer, you will be involved in the aircraft systems level design of Supplemental Type Certificates (STC's) for advanced systems installations. This role is integral to a multi-functional team that includes Systems, Electrical, and Mechanical engineers, all focused on the integration and certification of next-generation avionics for business, commercial, and military aircraft operators and customers. In this role, you will participate in the design and integration of aircraft systems rigs, equipment rigs, and harnesses for specialized testing. You will be responsible for monitoring and reporting the status of aircraft installations and design milestones to management and the project management team. While you will not have direct reports, you will guide the work activities of supporting technicians, design drafting, and project support staff. Collaboration with internal and external customers, peer engineers, and leadership will be key to your success in this position. This is an onsite position, emphasizing hands-on involvement with aircraft systems, and may offer relocation assistance for the right candidate. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in aircraft systems design and integration, particularly in avionics, and will be eager to work in a dynamic and innovative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the design and integration of aircraft systems rigs, equipment rigs, and harnesses for specialized testing.
  • Monitor and report the status of aircraft installations, systems rigs, equipment rigs, or harnesses design milestone status to management and project management team.
  • Direct work activities for supporting technicians, design drafting, and project support staff.
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers, peer engineers, and leadership.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in design or installation of design and integration of aircraft avionic systems by working with the respective business unit systems engineering team and the certification team to define the aircraft level installation architecture and details required to meet the approved certification basis.
  • Experience in design or installation and integration of aircraft systems rigs, equipment rigs and harnesses for specialized testing.
  • Identifying, documenting, and communicating significant design and integration risks for timely review and resolution.
  • Experience in wiring diagrams, harness assemblies, schematics, and installation drawings to assure compliance with FAA regulatory requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Auto-Cad.
  • Familiarity with Aircraft Maintenance Manuals and Supplements.
  • Experience in creating electrical load analysis.
