About the position

The Senior Electrical Engineer - Buildings at HDR, Inc. is responsible for leading electrical engineering projects within a multidisciplinary team. This role involves establishing client relations, ensuring code compliance, and mentoring junior staff while managing project schedules and financial aspects. The engineer will coordinate with various stakeholders to deliver high-performance building systems and contribute to sustainable design initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the work of Electrical Engineers with the balance of a multidiscipline team throughout the entire project's development
  • Establish client relations and participate in marketing, design, and production meetings regarding electrical systems
  • Assume the electrical lead on many projects
  • Participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
  • Conduct schematic, design development, and contract document work sessions at the project site
  • Coordinate workload through the entire project development to complete documents on schedule
  • Track the financial aspects of projects and adjust the work effort to ensure completion within agreed-upon schedules
  • Work with the Project Manager and Regional Controller for project reviews with corporate management as needed
  • Direct the activities of other electrical engineering professionals and mentor other staff members as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting/power/systems)
  • PE certification
  • Strong computer skills including Revit, Microsoft Office, and electrical design software
  • Commitment to being an active participant in an employee-owned culture

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis
  • California PE
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
  • Experience in Healthcare OSHPD / HCAI, Education, Sciences, Laboratories, Civic, Technology, Data Centers
  • Interest in sustainable design/LEED
