About the position

The Senior Electrical Engineer - Conceptual Power Generation Design role at Black & Veatch involves providing technical expertise in the design of conventional power generation projects. This position requires the development of electrical deliverables, engineering calculations, and specifications while ensuring compliance with engineering standards and quality programs. The role is hybrid, allowing for flexibility in work location, and emphasizes collaboration with internal and external teams to meet client needs and project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a Technical Specialist in conceptual design for power generation projects.
  • Develop electrical drawing deliverables including one line and three line diagrams, motor schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Perform complex engineering calculations such as load flow, short circuit analysis, and Arc Flash analysis.
  • Create electrical equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction.
  • Attend on-site meetings and provide support during construction phases.
  • Proactively provide guidance on engineering standards and policies.
  • Prepare complex engineering deliverables for multiple projects.
  • Coordinate with internal and external team members on complex projects.
  • Communicate client interests and develop approaches to accommodate their needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 11 years related work experience in electrical engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
  • Experience in utility scale conventional power generation project design.
  • Familiarity with NEC and IEEE/ANSI standards.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides.

Nice-to-haves

  • Quality Assurance/Quality Check (QA/QC) experience.
  • Experience with electrical equipment including MV and LV switchgear and transformers.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets and schedules effectively.
