About the position

Badger Meter is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Electrical Engineer to contribute to ongoing growth and innovation across product families. This role encompasses both hardware and firmware aspects of embedded system design, offering a unique opportunity to lead advanced development initiatives while mentoring team members and collaborating across disciplines. The Senior Electrical Engineer will play a pivotal role in new product development, industrialization, and sustaining existing products in a production environment, requiring a balance of technical expertise, leadership, and creative problem-solving to drive innovation and ensure product reliability and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve existing products within the production environment, ensuring continued alignment with market expectations.
  • Manage electrical engineering projects from concept to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and risk assessment.
  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of embedded systems and components for various applications, ensuring compliance with industry standards (UL/CSA, CE/EMC, FM, FCC, etc.).
  • Create and review schematics, wiring diagrams, and other technical documents.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., mechanical, project management, purchasing, manufacturing engineers, etc.) to integrate electrical changes seamlessly.
  • Develop and execute test plans to ensure product performance, reliability, and safety.
  • Analyze test data, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering technical growth and innovation.
  • Provide expert input during design reviews and technical decision-making processes.
  • Drive innovation through advanced development of new ideas and product concepts.

Requirements

  • 5+ or more years of related experience
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
  • Proficiency in analog and digital circuit design, microcontroller programming, and embedded software development
  • Hands-on experience working with embedded microcontrollers or microprocessors (e.g., 8-bit, 16-bit, ARM)
  • Familiarity with basic sensing technologies and their interfacing, such as magnetic or optical systems
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout software, such as Altium, is beneficial but not required
  • Familiarity with performance and reliability testing methodologies
  • Proficiency in using test instruments such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, data acquisition systems, and environmental chambers to troubleshoot and validate PCBs and electronic products
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to support product development or technical support
  • Familiarity with programming and scripting languages like C/C++, Python, and Bash, as well as tools such as Altium for PCB design and Octave for mathematical modeling.
