About the position

The Senior Electrical Engineer - Energy at WSP USA will provide technical assistance and guidance for various energy-related projects, including utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects. This role involves working on the design, development, and construction of electrical systems, particularly in the renewable energy sector, while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. The engineer will collaborate with a cross-functional team to deliver high-quality engineering solutions that meet client objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high, medium, and low voltage electrical engineering and design expertise on energy and power related projects.
  • Determine methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data relating to substation components and equipment specifications.
  • Review and advise on third-party design documents and project plans.
  • Perform complex electrical engineering work relating to the design of wiring diagrams and substation layouts.
  • Incorporate future-ready techniques and design requirements into electrical systems.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical input on engineering and construction procedures.
  • Develop electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, and protective device coordination.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates for projects.
  • Work collaboratively with a cross-functional team to execute project work.
  • Prepare data visualizations and technical reports for client presentations.
  • Maintain quality and responsiveness to client requirements.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
  • Assist in the analysis and interpretation of data from field investigations.
  • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Interact with regulatory agencies and clients professionally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of relevant post-education experience as an electrical engineer
  • Engineer in Training Certification or Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Proficient knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management
  • Working knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws and codes
  • Ability to make technical computations and calculations
  • Project management experience with small to mid-level projects
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail
  • Proficiency with technical writing and design software
  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to direct others in the field safely and efficiently
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety policies
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements
