About the position

The Senior Electrical Engineer - Energy will be involved in various projects with the Energy Team, providing technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects. The role requires expertise in high, medium, and low voltage electrical engineering and design, focusing on energy and power-related projects across multiple sectors including renewables, electrification, hydropower, and transmission & distribution.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high, medium, and low voltage electrical engineering and design expertise on energy and power related projects.
  • Determine methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data relating to substation components and equipment specifications.
  • Review and advise on third-party design documents and project plans.
  • Perform complex electrical engineering work relating to the design of wiring diagrams and substation layouts.
  • Incorporate future-ready techniques and design requirements with equipment sizing and cabling.
  • Support senior engineers with research and recommendations of components identified in design requirements.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical input on engineering and construction procedures.
  • Develop electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, and protective device coordination.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates for construction projects.
  • Work collaboratively with a cross-functional team to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Prepare data and visualizations for the interpretation or presentation of findings.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to explain research and findings.
  • Assist in the analysis and interpretation of data obtained during field investigations.
  • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a professional manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5 years of relevant post-education experience as an electrical engineer
  • Engineer in Training Certification or Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Proficient knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management
  • Working knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws and regulations
  • Ability to make technical computations and calculations
  • Project management experience with small to mid-level projects
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail
  • Proficiency with technical writing and discipline-specific design software
  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to assertively direct others in the field
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety
