About the position

Vantage Data Centers is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Innovation Engineering team, which is pivotal in standardizing products across the company's portfolio. This role can be based in any of our US locations, including Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ; Santa Clara, CA; or Ashburn, VA, or can be performed remotely. The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead the design development of microgrid solutions, on-site power generation, and high-voltage electrical systems, including substations, switchgear, and MV transformers. This position requires a collaborative approach, working closely with architects, other engineering disciplines, procurement, and the facility operations team to ensure that new standards are established and existing standards are implemented effectively. The Innovation Engineering team is responsible for developing standards, templates, specifications, and owner's requirements documents to support Vantage's global growth. This includes leading the prototyping effort known as OneDesign, which aims to drive prototypical designs for global deployment, ensuring high-quality and consistent product deployments that align with evolving customer requirements. The role also involves conducting due diligence assessments for merger and acquisition opportunities and developing design requirements for customer build-to-suit projects. In this position, you will be tasked with overseeing the design and engineering efforts for high-voltage electrical systems, supervising the development of microgrid solutions, and collaborating with mechanical counterparts to optimize central utility plant designs. You will also be responsible for developing and maintaining standards and reference designs, driving innovation through the implementation of emerging technologies, and ensuring quality assurance through rigorous testing and validation processes. This role is essential in ensuring that Vantage Data Centers continues to deliver reliable, efficient, and sustainable solutions in a rapidly evolving market.

  • Develop, maintain, and update standards and reference designs, including electrical block diagrams and single line diagrams.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to develop on-site power generation solutions and optimize central utility plants design.
  • Drive innovation by implementing emerging technologies, product developments, and patents to enhance Vantage's competitive advantage.
  • Ensure consistent design execution through coordination and handoff to internal and external project resources for site adaptation of program prototypes.
  • Provide oversight and review of program-level design plans, equipment, and system submittals.
  • Conduct value engineering analyses and provide system recommendations based on return on investment (ROI) and internal rate of return (IRR) analysis.
  • Coordinate heavily with internal engineering teams across all fields to ensure products delivered to operations are streamlined and optimized to meet business needs.
  • Use engineering analysis programs and professional judgement to analyze loads, lighting levels, and short-circuit currents.
  • Visit manufacturing plants for Factory Witness Testing (FWT) of critical equipment.
