About the position

As a Senior Electrical Engineer in Infrastructure Construction at SpaceX, you will play a crucial role in designing, building, and activating advanced manufacturing facilities. This position involves working on high power electrical systems that are integral to new construction projects, requiring autonomy in problem-solving and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. You will collaborate with various engineering disciplines and internal customers to ensure the successful implementation of electrical systems that support SpaceX's mission of enabling human life on Mars.

Responsibilities

  • Design and specify electrical power distribution systems, switch-gear, and motor control centers.
  • Develop plans for exterior and interior lighting, ground support system controls, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units.
  • Oversee standby and emergency generators, automatic transfer switches, and power monitoring hardware and software.
  • Coordinate data/phone distribution and wiring, building and site grounding systems, fire alarm systems, and lightning protection systems.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for existing electrical equipment and controllers to facility technicians.
  • Conduct load flow analysis and evaluate electrical equipment for the facility's systems.
  • Ensure compatibility of electrical systems with facility power budgets and coordinate installations with local electrical utilities personnel.
  • Review and analyze electrical designs for compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in electrical projects, power distribution systems, switchgear, UPS's, and/or generators.

Nice-to-haves

  • 10+ years of professional experience in a similar role.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Ability to read and understand power and control schematics.
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and industrial pumps.
  • Familiarity with MODBUS communication and medium voltage distribution.
  • Experience in control panel design and production.
  • Knowledge of power coordination and arc flash.
