About the position

The Senior Electrical Engineer will play a pivotal role in the design and technical systems for large, complex projects, particularly within the K-12 education sector. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of electrical engineering principles and practices, as well as the ability to manage projects from the schematic phase through to construction administration. The engineer will be responsible for developing building system concepts and documentation processes, ensuring that all aspects of the project align with the established budget and timeline. Regular coordination with the project supervisor is expected to ensure project development and performance meet the required standards. In this role, the Senior Electrical Engineer will lead project teams, providing direction and oversight to team members within their discipline. They will be tasked with preparing and monitoring project status reports, coordinating with the Electrical Engineering Discipline Leader to prepare project man-hour estimates, and conducting necessary code research. The engineer will also be responsible for developing and maintaining an Electrical Basis of Design Journal throughout the project lifecycle, conducting material and product research, and attending project meetings as necessary. Additionally, they will interface with other Project Discipline Team Leaders and respond to client inquiries within a 24-hour timeframe. Beyond project-related duties, the Senior Electrical Engineer will mentor support engineers, providing feedback on their performance and identifying opportunities for quality improvement. Participation in in-house training activities and professional organizations is encouraged, as is contributing to departmental discussions on new technologies and lessons learned. The engineer will also recognize and commend staff members who demonstrate exceptional work or exceed expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design and technical systems for large, complex projects from schematics through construction administration.
  • Develop building system concepts and documentation processes within the discipline.
  • Coordinate regularly with the supervisor on project development and performance.
  • Lead project discipline teams on large, complex projects when assigned.
  • Direct and oversee project team members within their discipline.
  • Monitor and execute team compliance with project budget.
  • Prepare and monitor project status reports.
  • Coordinate with Electrical Engineering Discipline Leader on project man-hour estimates.
  • Conduct required code research for projects.
  • Participate in the development of project cost models and design to them.
  • Develop and maintain Electrical Basis of Design Journal throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct material and product research as required for project development.
  • Attend project meetings as necessary.
  • Interface with other Project Discipline Team Leaders.
  • Respond to client questions/requests within 24 hours.
  • Document interpretation and submittal reviews during bidding and construction administration.
  • Monitor and mentor staff to produce quality architectural and engineering services within a project team concept.
  • Participate in in-house training activities and related professional organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and PE licensure required.
  • Minimum six years' experience in A/E industry preferred.
  • Proven experience working on mission critical/data center projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of professional services from schematic design through project close-out.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the coordination aspects and related requirements of all design disciplines.
  • Proficiency in short circuit and selective coordination calculation.
  • Utilization of EDSA, SKM or other analytical modeling software preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor staff, and delegate work assignments.
  • Computer and CADD/Revit literate.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible.
  • Ability to work well with others under deadline situations.
