About the position

The Electrical Engineer position at Burns & McDonnell focuses on designing and managing electrical systems for mission-critical data center projects. The role involves leading design, planning, and client coordination activities for high, medium, and low voltage electrical distribution and control systems, ensuring compliance with client requirements and applicable codes. This position is integral to the Mission Critical team, contributing to a rapidly growing sector in high-tech building design and construction.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems/equipment for mission critical environments according to client requirements for reliability and uptime.
  • Advise clients on electrical systems and requirements to meet their needs and comply with applicable codes.
  • Monitor installation of designed equipment/systems to ensure compliance with design documents.
  • Conduct fault studies and load flow analysis, developing design criteria for protective device coordination and relay applications.
  • Lead the design of electrical master plans for facilities, including power distribution, motor control centers, and energy-efficient lighting systems.
  • Review electrical designs and specifications of equipment or systems being purchased or fabricated.
  • Provide electrical design direction and resource management on multi-discipline projects.
  • Develop concept studies, designs, and narratives.
  • Participate in the identification, recruiting, and management of resources to meet business needs.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 7 years of electrical engineering experience, or a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 7 years of experience, or a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 6 years of experience.
  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design ANSI and IEEE Standards.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to work methodically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
  • EPC project experience preferred.
